Anyone who knows me knows that my lips are always chapped. I drink 10+ glasses of water per day, I apply sunscreen on my lips when out in the sun, I protect my face from wind and snow during inclement weather, but hey: these lips don’t care.
As a result, I am perpetually on the hunt for the world’s best lip balm. Here’s a list of (some of) the lip balms I’ve tried in the past year without much success:
Brave soldier Lip Defender, Carmex, Blistex and Blistex Lip Medex, Chapstick, eos, Burt’s Bees, Nivea, Maybelline Baby Lips, Cowshed, Vaseline Lip Therapy and Vaseline petroleum jelly, Ernest Lazlo lip balm, Fresh Sugar lip treatment, Yu-be lip therapy, C.O. Bigelow Lip Balm, MAC lip conditioner, Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 (pretty good for nighttime lip repair), Avene Cold Cream Lip Cream, Vitamin A&D ointment (my life saver when I’m in the ED and my lips are falling off), DHC lip cream, C.O. Bigelow My Favorite Lipbalm, and Rosebud salve.
My top three:
Come to think of it, I’ve paid a pretty penny on moisturizing my lips. So far, I haven’t found the perfect lip balm, but here are my top three:
1. Omorovicza Perfecting Lip Balm. This is my go-to pre-bedtime and pre-going out lip balm. It makes your lips look so glisteningly plump and lovely, it’s healing, and it stays put. The catch: it’s pricey. ($45 with complimentary S&H to the U.S. at omorovicza.com)
2. Homeoplasmine : this is a French (as in, found in French pharmacies) multi-purpose ointment (used for cuts/scrapes, eczema, etc.) that’s also magically healing and not sticky under lipstick (and it dries with a matte finish) and feels even more amazing when applied liberally. Great for men and women. ($22 including S&H at avibon.com or $26.65 at amazon.com)
3. Aquafor Lip Repair + Protect with SPF 30. SPF is a must especially in the summer months. Caveat: the original Aquafor ointment is better and lasts longer, but the perk of this one is the sun protection. ($3.97 at amazon.com)
Have a great lip balm that I need to try? My lips beg you to divulge! @drdebbieyi
